About Western Sydney Community Legal Centre 

WSCLC’s Community Legal Centre Program (CLCP) provides free legal advice and other legal and related services to the community of Western Sydney. 

The CLCP team provides legal services via specialized legal teams: 

  • Aboriginal Legal Access Program Legal Service
  • Community Justice legal service
  • Family Relations Legal Service
  • Multicultural Legal Service
  • Outreach Legal Service

 

About this Role 

This role is located within our legal practice and will be primarily based at Parramatta with some outreach required to other sites. 

The Assistant Principal Solicitor (APS) will support the Principal Solicitor in the management and professional supervision of the legal practice.

Selection criteria 

  • Admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW.
  • Post Admission Experience – 2 years
  • Demonstrated extensive casework experience, including litigation, in Focus areas relevant to the legal needs of disadvantaged people such as youth law, victims compensation, discrimination, administrative law, employment, family law, tenancy, domestic violence, consumer law or debt
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt a strategic approach in casework, community legal education and law reform work
  • Proven leadership skills in a legal and/or justice environment, including demonstrated high level skills in staff supervision
  • Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy of community legal centres and social justice, the promotion of human rights, social justice and meeting the legal needs of disadvantaged groups
  • Proven excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relate to people from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to undertake own administrative duties and good computer skills (e.g. word processing, file management).
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage staff well and build effective internal relationships.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementation, and the capacity to drive organisational change.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams to deliver the legal advice in line with WSCLC’s service agreements
