Planning Lawyer at Merc Capital

About the business – We are a successful property development and construction group. We specialise in mixed-use and high-rise developments, shopping centres, industrial parks, and commercial office buildings. We require a dynamic, full-time, and in-house Planning Lawyer. 

 

Key selection criteria for this position:

  • Appropriately qualified with relevant law degree tertiary qualification and admitted to practice in Australia
  • Determining the best planning approval pathway
  • Advising on the approvals required to carry out development
  • Reviewing DA and environmental assessment to ensure that it is legally robust
  • Advising on modifying development consents under section 4.55 of the EP&A Act
  • Assisting with compliance issues including responding to regulatory investigations
  • Representing the company at public hearings held by an independent specialist planning approval body (such as the Independent Planning Commission)
  • Advising and representing the company in any legal appeal brought in respect of the application
  • Must have an eye for detail, be able to quickly identify issues, communicate to management, and recommend solutions
  • Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills, including confident interaction with senior stakeholders
  • A proven ability in conducting complex and sensitive negotiations at a senior management level
  • Proven ability to build and foster positive relationships and networks
  • Possess strong organisational skills and commercial acumen
  • To work closely with executive management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
